Yo-yo Game

You probably all know how playing with yo-yo looks like. If we use it right it goes up and down, up and down. It looks similar with horses. We ask them to move in a straight line back and forward. Our goal is to make both pulling and pushing the same- yo=yo. Not YO-yo. It means a horse should come to us without any problem and just this easy back up.
We play yo-yo in all gates, on different length ropes, at liberty, on hills, in water, between things, in narrow places, on something, in a trailer or box- everywhere where it's save. Let's free our imagination! The more we play the more we get. Pat says the better a horse moves back and sideways, the better he does everything else.
The basic version looks like that:
We stand in front of the horse or (better) we ask the horse to stand there. If he's close enough back him using porcupine on nose. Then we start using typical yo-yo signals.
Reach out your hand, point your finger straight at the horse. Look in his eye's like you we're mad and take enough energy to make horse feel we want to move him. You can imagine this energy makes horse gallop. Cause it could. Then it's more possible your horse will react. Of course when you'll get better you won't have to use so much energy, cause the horse will become more sensitive.
If just sight isn't enough, start waving your forefinger, keeping it above the rope. Not under. Don't shake the rope. Just   a finger will work. Then, going to phase two close your hand and start moving your wrist to sides. After three seconds stop and use your elbow instead. I phase four wave vigorously your whole arm. Do it until the horse moves back just a little. The rope will hit his neck and head and it's uncomfortable so he should start looking for the right answer quickly. Don't think too much I may hurt, yes, a bit, but getting a kick from another horse hurts a way more.
Usually we wave horizontally but sometimes, especially when we use a bad rope, vertical waves may do better. Try what works better and is easier to understand for your horse.
Of course if the horse moves back praise him a lot- stop waving, release pressure, talk to him and if you can reach rub him with carrot stick. When he's already at the end of the rope it's time to call him back. Second yo.

Wtedy odpuszczamy
